Awakening Statue, National Harbor
The Awakening Giant emerges from the Potomac River beach at National Harbor, MD. Created by J. Seward Johnson in 1980, the statue was originally installed that same year at Hains Point in Washington, DC, as part of the International Sculpture Conference. The giant squatted on the property for 28 years, until purchased by the National Harbor developers and relocated in 2008. The giant stretches 70 feet across the sand, and his arm rises up 17 feet from its base.
